Economics 140. October 8th to 18th

In last wednesday's Lab class some mac users asked me how could they get Gretl datasets. Please click the following link:

...where I found the following instructions:

"Datasets (and in some cases replication scripts) are available for several popular econometrics textbooks, as shown in the table below.... the .tar.gz and .zip files are compressed archives that are usable on any operating system. Notes on installing the files can be found beneath the table."

Next week we will start Lesson 3.1. You can download the class notes from this link.

As you will see in this Lesson we will use some instruments of Algebra. It would be nice if you could review the basic concepts, perhaps using the following links: matrices and vectorslinear equations, matrix operations (addition, subtraction and multiplication), inverse of a matrix.

The goals for these two weeks are:
Warning about the practical work: Many of you have laptops. If you are willing to bring your own computer, we can do some practical work in the classroom.

Review carefully the ECN 140 website. Download the following material:
  • Introduction to Econometrics
  • Simple linear regression: graphical analysis
  • Homework set #1
As well as the dataset: simulated data
